Tuesday in DC - One awesome stop after another

It was smooth sailing all day in DC … and you wouldn’t believe how much we did.  We started with a delicious dinner at the Hard Rock cafĂ©, complete with a serenade of Mr. Schwieters in his 29th birthday.  Ford’s Theater was out next stop, along with the Petersen Hose for some and souvenir shopping for others.  Hopefully you heard some of our reflections from the National Gallery of Art before lunch.  We checked out the American History Museum (couldn’t miss the Star Spangled Banner, could we?) and then to the emotional Holocaust Memorial Museum.  After a walking tour of the crowded MLK, FDR, and TJ Memorials, we headed to Nationals Park to see the Nats take on the Cardinals.  Bill Taft lost the Presidents race, unfortunately.  All in all, it was a fantastic day and our young historical tourists are doing a fine job!  You can check out all of the Tuesday pics here, or check a few out on the slideshow!

Here is where we are!

At the ball game!

Good morning!

Breakfast at the Hard Rock and now waiting in line at Ford's Theatre.

DC or Bust

After a few fun classes at USM, we headed down to MKE for our flights out east.  To the DC area.  The Baltimore flight was a little delayed, but our travelers did a great job causing no harm at the gate.  After 2 hours in the air, we made our way to the Marriott Wardman Park near the Washington Zoo.  It’s quite a place!  The kids are all settled for the first night, mentally preparing for an awesome tour around town tomorrow.  Highlights for Tuesday include ... Ford's Theater, the National Gallery of Art, the National Museum of American History, the Holocaust Memorial Museum, MLK, FDR, and TJ Memorials, and an evening at the ballpark with the Washington Nationals.  Hopefully Taft will win the President's race!

DC Raffle

Our young historical tourists have the opportunity to enter our first ever DC raffle this week as we raise a little money for our service learning project.  Here are the exciting items ...

Ms. Barth will fund a trip to a candy counter for you and your roommates, either while we are out and about or while we're hanging out at the hotel.

Ms. Altman will be your personal shopper, delivering snacks of your choice to your room during one of the evenings at the hotel for you and your roommates.

Mr. Mussoline will put together a video documentary of the trip. The video will be about 5-7 minutes long with highlights of all the places that were visited.

Mr. Schwieters will spring for ice cream at the one of the food courts for the winner and a friend.

Want to see Mr. Strains expand his wardrobe beyond what he usually wears, which let's face it,  rarely matches anyway?  Mr. Strains will wear a t-shirt of your choosing for one entire day in DC.   The shirt can be something you had laying around the house, or even something you made yourself.  You are limited only by your own creativity...and Mr. Strains's shirt size (medium).

After a long day sightseeing, it's nice to put your feet up, relax and drink a nice ice-cold soda. Mrs. E will provide you and your roommates your choice of sodas from the hotel vending machines on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night.

Taft loves souvenirs – especially the cheesy ones you can find around Ford’s Theater.  On Tuesday of the trip, he will get your room a set of matching goofy DC hats or t-shirts to wear for the rest of time.

A WEEK AWAY!

It's only one week until we depart for our historypalooza in DC!  My plan is to update this site daily with a brief overview of what we have done, but more importantly to provide photos, audio, and video of our young historical tourists as they take the nation's capital by storm.  The updates usually happen late at night, so hopefully you all can see what the kids are doing over your morning cup of coffee (or Diet Coke, in my case).  Please check back each day for updates!

January Parent Meeting

January Parent Meeting

Welcome parents! Hopefully this evening's overview of the trip will provide a great overview of our historypalooza in April and answer some of your questions. For those who couldn't make it, I hope the video recording worked. The password is "historyrules", of course!
